PERFORMER, MUSIC DIRECTOR , VOICE TEACHER & COMPOSER
Frances was born in Glasgow, Scotland.
She has developed a small teaching practice in North London over the last 20 years, with a wide range of students: – amateur and professional adult singers working on vocal, musicianship, performance and recording techniques; children of all ages – some taking theory and singing exams; and many corporate clients wishing to improve their speech and personal presentation skills.
She has pursued a career as a soloist over the last 30 years, and her repertoire is wide ranging:- Cage, Schoenberg, Boulez, Mozart, Birtwistle, Tavener, Britten, Leroux, Musgrave, Bach, Aperghis, Ades, Bingham, Purcell, Luff, Bauld, Cardi, McNeff, Handel, Keenan, Kupper, Poulenc, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Debussy, Falla, Ives, Head, Dalby, Vaughan-Williams, Holst, Gershwin, Cole Porter, Satie,…… She has also sung a great deal of pop and rock music in both recording and live situations.
During her diverse career she has worked closely with many composers:- Berio, Kagel, Weir, Barker, Azquime, Finnissy, Hoyland, Lovett, Soveral, Wimhurst, Wallen, Marsh, Sikora, Gough, Lunn, Poppy, Nelson, Steer, Wolman, Limbrick, Georgiades, Lignos,…… – and collaborated regularly with Nicholas Till at The Centre for research in Opera and Music Theatre at the University of Sussex; Mark Troop, pianist, and Keith MacIntyre, visual artist.
Frances has appeared across Europe (East and West), Scandinavia, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and the USA , in prestigious and unusual venues:- in London; Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Barbican Concert Hall, ICA, Africa Centre, Saddlers Wells … and further afield at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall; Naval Dockyard, Portsmouth; Gothenburg Opera; IRCAM; ZKM; De Ysbreker ; a canal barge, Holland; Prefectural Concert Hall , Yokahama etc..
There have been countless contemporary music festivals:- Huddersfield, Cervantino (Mexico), Almeida, Alicante, Lisbon, ISCM, Second Glance (London), and more eclectic events : – the Mòd, Scotland, Henley , Aberdeen Festival of Enchanting Story Telling, Edinburgh International and Fringe Festivals…..not to mention performing with art exhibitions including one by Tracey Emin.
A profusion of on stage partners embraces the BBCSO, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Moderne , Kent Opera, Tibia Flute Quartet, Emperor String Quartet, The Chamber Music Company , The Lost Jockey, Indian and Chinese ensembles, Communicado Theatre Company, Second Stride Dance Theatre, Solent People’s Theatre, English Serenata, Tabula Rasa, Extemporary Dance Theatre, Beppie Blankert Dance, and, currently, Frances is an associate member of the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble, Lisbon.
Her broadcasts encompass international stations such as Radio France and Swedish Radio, Scottish TV and numerous for the BBC:- radio 3, Radio 4s’ “Womans’ Hour”, local radio, TV – “Blue Peter”, “Sound on Film”, plus Opera & Dance series etc…, and she has been involved in recordings for NMC amongst others, featuring on the covers of magazines like Classical Music and Opera Now.
Lynch is the Artistic Director of electric voice theatre, a company responsible for some of the most innovative music theatre and opera projects in the UK over the last 30 years. They are currently developing the Grid Project Harmony Squared, a giant human sequencer with audience participation, education projects and corporate training workshops, alongside new educational and performance projects with The Great Tapestry of Scotland, and Minerva Scientifica at King’ s College London
Frances is also a director of music for drama and opera; a composer for plays, music-theatre, art exhibitions, choirs and commercial recordings; and a performer with children’s interactive concert company, Big Mouth Piano Tales. http://www.bigmouthpianotales.co.uk/
